Boxing: Tyson set to stay in States

Mike Tyson's next fight now appears likely to take place on June 2 in Washington, with talks under way that could result in a deal by the end of the week.

"It's a very good possibility," said Jay Larkin, the boxing boss of Showtime, the network which has a television contract with Tyson.

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson, 48-3 with 42 knockouts, is set to fight Nigerian David Izon, 27-3 with 23 knockouts.

It will be Tyson's first fight since stopping Poland's Andre Golota after two rounds last November at Pontiac, Michigan.

For several weeks the fight appeared set to go to Sydney, Australia. But there were immigrations concerns about the Australian government's willingness to allow Tyson into the country.

Tyson has been convicted of rape and assault, serving jail time for each, and was banished from the ring for a year for biting Evander Holyfield's ears during a title fight.
