Horseracing: Senor El Betrutti to miss Grand National

Senor El Betrutti will miss Saturday’s Martell Grand National at Aintree.

Trainer Susan Nock decided today not to declare the gelding for the £500,000 spectacular due to a forecast of heavy rain at the Merseyside course over the next 24 hours.

She said: "I spoke to the clerk of the course Ian Renton first thing this morning and he said that although the going was perfect at the moment there is a lot of rain forecast for today and even more tomorrow.

"There didn’t seem any point in declaring him and then pulling him out later and depriving someone of the chance to run.

"It is disappointing but sometimes these things are meant to be."
