The Chief Executive of the Irish Turf Club has expressed concern that next month's Irish Grand National may have to be cancelled.

Brian Kavanagh said he fears that a long wait will be required before the resumption of sporting events in this country.

He said the Turf Club had adopted a wait-and-see approach to see if the race, scheduled for Easter Monday, will go ahead.

Punchestown is also set for the following weekend.

Kavanagh said his body would be in constant contact with the Department of Agriculture to monitor the situation.
