Seamus O’Connor will be Ireland’s flag bearer tomorrow morning as the coldest Winter Olympics in decades gets underway with the opening ceremony in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Fears of hypothermia have shortened the opening formalities where halfpipe snowboarder O’Connor, at his second Games, will lead a team of five Irish athletes at the Parade of Nations.

“It’s a great honour for me and my family that I have been chosen to be the Irish flag bearer,” said O’Connor, who grew up in San Diego.
