Rob Heffernan presents the medals at the Sciath na Scol finals in Cork

It's great to win a competition but to get your medal from an Olympian makes it a little more special.

Rob Heffernan was on hand to do the honours and present the medals to both teams in the Allianz Sciath na Scol finals in Cork.

It was Carrigaline's Scoil Mhuire Lourdes who went home with the trophy, beating Scoil Barra, Beaumont.

Heffernan said it was a great experience for the kids to play in front of a crowd and to take part in the "great occasion."

"It'll stand to them - win, lose or draw - it doesn't really matter at this age - it's the whole experience of everything."

The game was extra special for Heffernan thanks to a family connection, with his son and nephew on opposing teams. His nephew scored 1-04 for the winners.
