Basketball Ireland Super League Preview: November 3 - 6

It’s back to Super League action this weekend and all eyes are on Cork this evening [Thursday] as Singleton SuperValu Brunell prepare for their first home game of the season, which sees them up against local rivals and League leaders, Ambassador UCC Glanmire.

Basketball Ireland Super League Preview: November 3 - 6

Brunell are chasing their first win of the season following losses to Courtyard Liffey Celtics, DCU Mercy and NUIG Mystics and will welcome back Canadian pro Kaylee Kilpatrick tonight, after she sustained a pre-season shoulder injury six weeks’ ago.

“We’ve had a challenging start to the season,” acknowledged Head Coach, Francis O’Sullivan. “We know tonight will be challenging – it’s Glanmire - they’re playing well and of course, there’s some local rivalry as Brunell have never beaten them in a National League game - but that day has to come and we’re looking forward to it.”

Elsewhere, Portlaoise Panthers are hoping to surprise Meteors this weekend after running Maxol WIT Wildcats close in their last game.

“We surprised Wildcats with our defence and I’m very confident going to Meteors this Saturday,” said Head Coach Hunor Harkai. In the weekend’s other game, Courtyard Liffey Celtics take on Pyrobel Killester.

Meanwhile, after a busy couple of weeks of Hula Hoops National Cup action, the men’s teams also return to the Super League this week, with some interesting games in store.

Mark Keenan’s Templeogue will welcome UCC Demons to Oblate Hall this weekend for their third successive game against the Cork side.

“We are facing them for the third weekend in a row, but we have to park the last two games now – they were Cup games, and it’s back to the League this time. We’ve been going well in the League so we can’t slacken off now,” said Keenan.

Elsewhere, Griffith Swords Thunder will face Belfast Star, UCD Marian will be up against KUBS BC, Radisson Blu UL Eagles welcome Pyrobel Killester, Irish TV Tralee Warriors will play host to DCU Saints while SSE Airtricity Moycullen go head-to-head with Commercial.ie Éanna.
