Double delight for starlet Michaela Walsh in Tullamore

Michaela Walsh once again ensured the field events took centre stage at the GloHealth National Junior and U23 Championships in Tullamore on Saturday, the Swinford thrower scoring a double in the junior women’s shot put and hammer.

Walsh threw a best of 15.06m in the shot put and sent the hammer out to 55.85m, marks which set the 17-year-old up for a strong showing at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland later this month.

With athletes also looking to secure selection for the upcoming European Youth Championships, there was more than just national titles on the line.
