Katie Taylor has suffered a shock defeat at the European Olympic qualifiers, missing out on an opportunity to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

The reigning Olympic champion was beaten by Yana Alekseevna of Azerbaijan in her lightweight semi-final this afternoon.

It is Taylor's first defeat since 2011, although if she wins tomorrow’s bout for third place that may be enough to gain qualification
