Crescent College Comprehensive went unbeaten throughout the Subway All-Ireland Schoolgirls Championships but ultimately ran out of time to retain their title as Methodist College Belfast claimed their maiden crown in Limerick yesterday.

Inspired by player of the tournament Katie Larmour, by far the competition’s most dominant figure, Methody got wins over Loreto Kilkenny (4-0) and a heavily fancied Alexandra College (3-1) to put themselves in the driving seat on day two.

Last season’s competition top scorer Aebfhinn Bourke was back to her best for Crescent, netting all four in their 4-0 win over Salerno, but they needed a three-goal win over Alex to secure the title.

Munster U18 starlet Bourke again struck 14 minutes from time but they couldn’t get the extras needed despite taking off their goalkeeper of the tournament Niamh Keyes in favour of an extra outfielder, and a 1-0 success handed the title to Methody on goal difference.
