It's a small crumb of comfort for the fans of the much-loved gridiron drama - Riggins, Coach Taylor, Tami, Saracen and co are due on a Texas football field for a catchup this June.

And who knows, if Buddy Garrity shows up and is at his most persuasive, all involved might be coaxed into a revival.

Can't lose.

The reunion is part of the Austin-based ATX Television Festival, with selected cast and crew expected to attend a a “Panther Field” meetup, pep rally, concert and 'tailgate'.

To tide them over, Jason Street and Landry Clarke - AKA Scott Porter and Jesse Plemons - staged their own reunion at last week's Super Bowl.

Scott Porter - who played QB1 Street, who wound up in a wheelchair after an on-field injury in season one - continues to ride the wave of lament for FNL, which has now lasted five years since the show's final episode aired.

US production company Sucker Love Productions, will stage the 'Unauthorised Friday Night Lights musical' this year. And Street, who flirted with coaching before becoming a sports agent, has been promoted to the role of Coach Taylor.

Could there be an on-screen FNL reunion, perhaps a movie?

Kyle Chandler (Coach Eric Taylor) has always dismissed the plan, saying last year:

"The show ended perfectly. It was five seasons, it was really good, and I just didn't see a movie."

But in a recent interview with Vulture, Connie Britton (Tami Taylor, who was never one to turn down a job opportunity), said she'd jump at the chance.

"I would, I just would. Listen, I love that world. I love those characters. I love those actors. I so understand the argument that it’s already done and we ended it perfectly. I get all that. Yet I feel like if Pete [Berg] wanted to do it, that would mean that he had an idea that was good enough and worth doing. I don’t believe that he does, which is why I think it’s kind of another point. But if that was the case and he had an idea and it was worth doing, I would be onboard 100 percent.”
