Rousey v Holm rematch confirmed

UFC boss Dana White claimed that the much anticipated rematch between Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey will take place and it may come about as soon as June 6 of next year.

The dust has barely settled after UFC 193 in Australia last month, when Holm shocked the world with a devastating kick to knock out the then undefeated and seemingly invincible “Rowdy” Rousey.

Yet, with the UFC hype machine in full swing for UFC 194’s showdown between McGregor and Aldo, Dana White decided to announce that a rematch between Rousey and Holm will indeed take place.

With reports from the Holm camp indicating she wanted to fight Miesha Tate next, White quashed the idea and insisted the Rousey rematch is well and truly on.

Holm’s trainer Fresquez told the Times: "Holly's used to staying active. We're from the old school, and we believe the number one contender is there for a reason. She deserves a shot, but it's not for me to decide."

UFC head honcho Dana White however, didn’t share his view.

“We're real concerned with (Fresquez's) opinion," White said, sarcastically.

Rousey recently revealed she is facing a lengthy recovery period but wants a rematch when she is fit again. Tate (17-5), a former Strikeforce bantamweight champion, is on a four-fight winning streak and was actually expected to fight Rousey early next year, before the UFC switched gears and announced a matchup between Rousey and Holm.

The rematch is not set in stone but with both camps having agreed to it, White will be keen to wrap up a deal and announce Holm v Rousey take 2.
