Team Montenotte in full control

Team Montenotte overcame Singletons Supervalu Brunell in the Women’s Premier League before a big attendance at Upper Glanmire Sports Centre last night.

In a game the champions were slow into their stride, once they found their rhythm they blitzed their opponents with champagne basketball.

Brunell went into the game minus Edel Thornton and with American Katie Hannemann, struggling with illness on the build up she was left out of the starting five. Credit to the visitors they played a high tempo game and deservedly commanded a 15-14 lead entering the second period. Montennotte responded to the wake up call and with Jessica Scannell contributing 10 points in the second period they surged into an 11-point interval lead. The pressure told on Brunell in the third quarter as the shooting of Claire Rockall punished them at will as they put this game to bed with an impeccable display that gave them a 60-41 lead entering the final quarter.

Coming down the stretch Brunell tried hard to get back into it but their third quarter performance came back to haunt them.

Scorers for Team Montenotte: Áine McKenna 18, Jessica Scannell 16, Claire Rockall 15.

Singletons Supervalu Brunell: Megan O’Leary 12, Amy Waters 10, Katie Hannemann.
