Denis Lynch was the top Irish earning show jumper at the weekend, scoring a second place in Saturday’s Longines Grand Prix in La Coruna, Spain, with All Star 5 to pocket €100,000.

The Tipperary rider had the advantage of being last to go in the 12-horse jump-off, but fell short by just under two seconds of the target set by Dutchman Leopold van Asten and VDL Groep Zidane.

Lynch followed up yesterday with a similar result in a speed class aboard Songe de Toscane, while fellow Tipperary rider Shane Breen scored a victory in a jump-off class on Friday aboard the nine-year-old stallion Farao van’t Vennehof to collect €30,000.

At the five-star Rolex Masters Show in Geneva, Switzerland, Irish riders were out of luck in yesterday’s €750,000 grand prix, with Cameron Hanley (Living The Dream) exiting round one on five faults, Bertram Allen (Molly Malone V) going out on eight faults, and Billy Twomey putting up nine faults on Diaghilev.

Earlier, Thomas Ryan won a speed contest on Caribo.

In Guangzhou, China, Brian Morrison, riding the 10-year-old gelding Zieso, led the Camelot Team to victory in the final of the National China League. The West Cork rider also picked up third place in a 1.40mtr speed competition, in what was his last competitive outing in China since travelling there in October.

In Azerbaijan, Ingmar De Vos was elected president of the Federation Equestre Internationale by an overwhelming majority, earning 98 votes out of a possible 131.

Belgian De Vos, 51, had been secretary general of equestrian’s world governing body since May 2011.

Ireland’s Dr Antonia Lehane was appointed to the FEI Medical Committee and Brian Dunn was appointed to the FEI Endurance Committee.
