Nevin makes welcome return to ring action

Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin will be between the ropes for his comeback fight in North Carolina this Saturday six months after it was feared his career was over.

In a surprise but welcome announcement, Nevin’s team GreenBlood team in Philadelphia yesterday confirmed the ex AIBA World No.1 ranked bantamweight will return from a career-threatening assault this weekend.

Nevin beat Alberto Candelaria on his pro debut in Boston last St Patrick’s Day, but there were fears that his career was over after both of his legs were broken in a vicious assault near his home in Mullingar in April.
