Robinson and Mageean third in Fifth Avenue Mile
Robinson, alongside Ciarán Ó Lionáird, was first to race down one of New York City’s most famous thoroughfares in the men’s race. The pace was quick from the start with the halfway passed in 1 minute and 56 seconds.
“It was pretty fast from the start,” said Robinson with a bonus of $1,000 for the runner in the lead at the halfway point.
“I knew it was pretty quick so I wanted to make sure I had something left for the last 400m because I knew it was close to 3:50 pace,” continued the Kildare man who finished third in 3:51.1 seconds in a blanket finish.
Jordan McNamara came out on top in 3:51.0. Ó Lionáird was tenth in 3:54.3.
Ciara Mageean was thrilled with her 4:21.2 run. “I’m absolutely over the moon,” said Mageean of her third place finish in a world-class field. Jenny Simpson, the world number one in the mile this year, captured her third Fifth Avenue mile title in 4:19.4.
