McGee’s US Open adventure smashed in opening round by Nedovyesov

Making his initial appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam, the Irish No 1 found the step up in class too hot to handle, and he was left licking his wounds as Kazakhstan’s Alexandr Nedovyesov advanced to the second round on a 4-6 6-2 6-1 7-6 (7/3) scoreline.
McGee, the 197-ranked outsider, could not have hoped for a more favourable start to the contest, breaking his 107-ranked opponent to 15 in the opening game, and then saving two break points in the next game.
