Gibson leads the Irish charge

Athletes from Ireland, Wales, Scotland and an Athletics Ireland development team competed in U16 and U18 age categories.

Ireland finished top with a combined score of 184 points from Wales (160) and Scotland on 136 points.

Gibson was particularly impressive in the 400m and it was an excellent way to round out his season after falling yards before the line at the All-Ireland schools in May with victory in sight.

Others who impressed for Ireland included Mustafa Nasir, who won the U18 800m in 1:56.91.

Maria Carey excelled in the triple jump with 11.98m while Jordan Hoang also dominated in the U18 men’s with 13.68m.

At U16 level Ireland were buoyed by impressive victories by Kevin McGrath (1500m), Daniel Ryan (100m hurdles), Lauren Gleeson (long jump) and Orlaith O’Brien (javelin).
