Nevin and Berkeley part ways

John Joe Nevin and Berkeley Sports & Media of the UK have parted company.

Nevin and Berkeley part ways

Nevin signed with Berkeley and GreenBlood of the USA last year and won his first pro fight with the Anglo-American stable at the House of Blues in Boston last St Patrick’s Day. But the London 2012 silver medallist’s career looked in serious doubt after his two legs were broken in a vicious assault near his home in Mullingar in April.

Berkeley Sports & Media confirmed yesterday they had amicably parted company with Nevin and wished him the best of luck in his future career.

Nevin is due to fly out to the USA to team up with GreenBlood this week and says he feels stronger than ever after weeks of work in the Cavan BC gym.

“I will release a statement in relation to Berkeley Sports and Media in the near future. Right now I’m flying it and I am looking to have a fight in September.

“I’m where I want to be fitness wise at this point and I feel that I will be stronger than ever when I return as I’ve put in a lot of strength and conditioning work over the last few weeks.

“I’ve put in the work and all my focus is on getting back in the ring now and building on my win in March in Boston.”

Brian McKeown, Nevin’s coach at the Cavan BC, said the two-time Irish Olympian has made steady progress.

“He’s in good form and he’s training well. He’s limp is gone, but he hasn’t spared yet. He’s working at the level of a good club boxer. He’s at the level you would except from a good club boxer in the close season. We’re looking at mid-September for his next fight. He should be ready to test the water by then.”
