Carroll’s Canadian win

Mallow star Killian Carroll picked up the biggest win of his career on Saturday when he won the Canadian Nationals Open Singles title with a hugely-impressive straight games final win over American No 1 Luis Moreno.

The 20-year-old right hander overcame large deficits in both games – he was down 18-4 in the first — before coming through 21-16, 21-17 for a victory which, following on from another first-place finish at the Boston Open earlier this month, announced his arrival on the world stage.

Carroll teamed up with Tyrone 21-year-old Conor McElduff to take the Open Doubles title.

At home, Cavan’s James Brady and Mayo’s Vincent Moran took the honours at a competitive 60x30 doubles event in Virginia, Co Cavan. They defeated senior star Dessie Keegan of Mayo and Meath’s Peter Reilly in an 11-10 tiebreaker in the final.
