Santa Cruz offered big purse to fight Frampton outside US

“It will be a substantial financial package,” said Frampton’s manager Barry McGuigan, who wouldn’t be drawn on whether the offer is pounds, euros or dollars.

“Carl and Santa Cruz is definitely the most attractive fight in this division and it is up to us to negotiate it now.”

Unbeaten Frampton beat Mexico’s Hugo Cazares in the final eliminator for Santa Cruz’s crown at a sold-out Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Friday.

The ex-Irish Elite champion KO’d Cazares in the second round amid the type of emotional scenes last seen in a boxing arena for Katie Taylor’s Olympic final win and McGuigan’s world title win over Eusebio Pedroza in London 1985.

Frampton detonated a left hook that lifted Cazares off his feet midway through the second round. The Mexican southpaw appeared to mistime the count, which was administered by ref Victor Loughlin, and was counted out.

McGuigan, whose son Shane and Jimmy Tibbs, and ex trainer to McGuigan and Frank Bruno, work Frampton’s corner, touted Ravenhill, the home of Ulster rugby, as a possible venue for the Frampton/Santa Cruz fight.

“It could be in Ravenhill, it might be in Manchester, it could be in New York, or it could be in Vegas, he added.
