Robinson breaks four-minute barrier

Paul Robinson went under the four-minute barrier when he finished third in the Herb Elliot mile at the Perth Track Classic in Australia on Saturday.

Robinson (St Coca’s) ran 3:59.56 in a race won by Kenya’s James Magut in 3:53.73.

At the International Track meet in Christchurch, New Zealand Laura Crowe (An Riocht) finished second behind Angela Smit (2:07.52) in 2:08.23 over 800m while Mark Hanrahan finished second in the 3,000m in 8:20.77 in a race won by Melbourne team-mate Ben St Lawrence in 8:03.02.

Meanwhile, at the Woodie’s DIY National Intermediate and Masters Cross-Country Championships in Dunboyne yesterday, Andrew Connick (Ferrybank) and Michelle McGee (Brothers Pearse) proved runaway winners.

Declan Reed (City of Derry) won the masters men while Maria McCarthy (Farranfore) won the women’s event.
