Tough Eagles test for Demons

C&S UCC Demons welcome defending champions UL Eagles to the Mardyke Arena on Sunday for a crucial Premier men’s League clash.

Tough Eagles test for Demons

Demons produced the comeback of the season in their National Cup semi-final win over Killester and player coach Colin O’Reilly is hoping his side stay focused on the job in hand.

“We had to dig deep to get over Killester but that chapter is closed and we have a very good UL Eagles side to play this weekend and no doubt our character will once again be tested,” he said. “The cup is great championship to win but for me the league is the one that tells you who is the best team over 18 games and that’s our goal.”

UL Eagles signed former Demons American Delwan Graham this season and he has a very good season. Former Demons coach Paul Kelleher sensationally axed Graham after helping his team to four consecutive wins and the American will be eager to show his true talent in front of the Demons’ faithful. The main battle sees UL’s influential point guard Scott Kinevane in a match-up with Kyle Hosford, an interesting challenge for the young Demons ace.

Second placed Killester entertain UCD Marian in an interesting Dublin derby with coach Jonathon Grennell hoping his side can keep within range of Demons at the summit.

Dublin Inter shocked many last weekend by toppling Neptune in the cup and they visit Inchicore tomorrow to play Templeogue.

Templeogue have found the going tough in the fast lane as they only accumulated one win in their debut season but coach Mick Thompson will be hoping for a win against the cup finalists.

Neptune hope to get back to winning ways when they travel to Galway to play Moycullen.

In the women’s Premier League leaders DCU Mercy travel to Cork to renew rivalry with Team Montenotte. The Cork side defeated DCU in the cup semi-final and Montenotte coach Paul Kelleher will be hoping American Emilee Harmon maintains her recent rich vein of form.

UL Eagles also renew their cup semi-final win when they travel to Clontarf for a difficult clash with Killester. The Dublin side have a major fitness worry in captain Aishling O’Sullivan.
