Terrific Tobin doubles up

An impressive double by 18-year-old Clonmel athlete Sean Tobin was the highlight of the 13th annual Leevale T&F meeting which took place at the Cork IT track in dry but windy conditions on Saturday.

First came the 800 metres where Waterford athletes Niall Tuohy and James Ledingham were Tobin’s main opposition, but coming off the last bend the Clonmel Leaving Cert student kicked and finished well clear in a personal best of 1:51.67.

He returned later in the afternoon with a sub-60 second final lap to take the mile in 4:20.01. “I enjoyed that, I now hope to put in a good block of three to four weeks training before the Irish Schools, which is my main focus,” said the current schools cross-country champion.
