Barry and Kearney add to Ireland’s growing London bounty

Six days into the Paralympic Games and Ireland finds itself the proud possessor of 10 medals, the latest of them arriving late into the London night when Cork’s Orla Barry secured a bronze in the women’s F57/58 discus.

Barry was the first competitor to throw at the Olympic Stadium and it was the first of her six efforts on the night, one of 28.12 metres, that was worth 921 points in the factored system used in a class with athletes of various levels of disability, that ultimately proved good enough to deliver a place on the podium at her second Paralympic Games.
