Windies openers eye record

Gayle was dropped shortly before lunch but otherwise cruised to an unbeaten 146 in his first Test in 18 months while Powell needs just four more runs to complete his century this afternoon.

The two carried their side to 245 without loss — 106 runs behind — and they will need another 53 runs to better the Windies’ highest opening wicket stand made by Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes against England in 1990.
