Ó Hairtnéid triumphs at CIT

The South Munster Schools Cross-Country event at Cork IT in Bishopstown provided some impressive performances.

Ian Ó Hairtnéid of Coláiste Daibhéid moved away from Cullen Lynch (Douglas CS) over the last lap in the senior race to take victory by 10 seconds.

Lynch led his Douglas team-mates to an easy team victory and they also came up trumps in the intermediate event where Cillian O’Donovan of Coláiste na Sceilge, Caherciveen, led all the way for a comprehensive win.

Louise Shanahan of Scoil Mhuire used her 800m speed to good advantage to pip Brigid Dennehy (Coláiste na Sceilge) in the combined senior/intermediate girl’s race.

All-Ireland champion Feargal Curtin, representing Midleton CBS, showed his class when taking the minor race while his school were easy team winners.

Fiona Everard of Maria Immaculata, Dunmanway, was another to impress when winning the minor girls’ race from Christina Ni Chuipeir of Colaiste Ghobantan, Ballyvourney. St Mary’s, Midleton took team honours ahead of Mallow.
