One way traffic as Reese lands the spoils
Recent runs gave evidence that the bitch had lost her trapping boots but she picked the perfect time to rediscover them as she led all the way. A determined and strong stayer, she forged clear on the run to the turn and, after moving into a decisive lead down the back, she kept on well to deny Speed Lock by half a length in 28.88 - the pair a long way clear of the remainder of the field.
Kieran Lynch has his kennel in stunning form right now and he recorded a double when taking two of the three semi-finals of the Curraheen Park A5. Miss Verlingo, running in the second heat, gave best to Yogi Bear in the early stages but she ran the opening bends well to lead into the back. Pulling clear in good style, she raced to a 29.21 victory.
The double was complete just a quarter of an hour later when Rockybay Sliney came from off the pace to claim victory. Some six lengths behind duelling leaders Cooltraw Mist and Sabatini as they raced down the back, he took advantage as that pair bumped turning into the home straight. Securing his maiden success, he got up in the dying strides for a half-length victory in 29.54.
The other semi-final went to Con O'Sullivan's Gowlane Hawk, who asserted his superiority from halfway, scoring comfortably from Gifted Again in 29.00.
Race five was the highest grade event of the night and victory went to the brave Kranky Ma. John Kiely's bitch had to be strong to hold her ground early but once she fended off the attention of favourite Mellery Blue, she was never in danger as she recorded a comprehensive 29.11 victory.
The accolade of fastest of the night went to the Johnny Linehan-trained Ballyverry Girl. Contesting the opening race, the litter sister to Gowlane Hawk had the speed to clear Paddys Lark at the first bend and, once in front, she moved right away to score by six lengths in 28.85.
