Katie on shortlist for RTÉ award
The female boxer will battle it out against eight males for the title this year. And, with the Olympics on next year, she’s unlikely to lift the main prize, held in conjunction with the Irish Sports Council.
Among her illustrious company on the night will be British Open winner Darren Clarke, Kilkenny hurler Michael Fennelly, European rugby player of the year Sean O’Brien, US Open winner Rory McIlroy, boxer John Joe Nevin, cricketer Kevin O’Brien, Dublin footballer Alan Brogan and international soccer star Robbie Keane.
The winners will be revealed and presented with their awards at the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on RTÉ One, on Sunday December 18 at 9.30pm.
RTÉ Sports Person of the Year shortlist: Darren Clarke, Michael Fennelly, Sean O’Brien, Katie Taylor, Rory McIlroy, John Joe Nevin, Kevin O’Brien, Alan Brogan and Robbie Keane.
RTÉ Sports Team of the Year shortlist: Leinster rugby team, Dublin’s footballers, Cork’s ladies footballers, Republic of Ireland soccer team, Shamrock Rovers, Kilkenny senior hurling team, Wexford camogie team and the Irish Cricket team.
RTÉ Sports Manager of the Year shortlist: Brian Cody, JJ Doyle, Michael O’Neill, Billy Walsh, Joe Schmidt, Giovanni Trapattoni, Pat Gilroy and Willie Mullins.
