Slick Welsh always in control
Wales ran in six tries as they warmed up for their Four Nations debut in perfect fashion. Andrew Gay opened the scoring inside two minutes but Ireland fought their way back into the game. However, they were unable to break Wales’ defence and the hosts demonstrated their class with two quick-fire tries shortly before the half-hour but they went into the interval with a 14-point deficit following further tries from Christian Roets and Tyson Frizell.
The floodgates opened in the second-half as Wales took control of the encounter with Mark Lennon, Elliot Kerr and Jordan James also touching down. Ireland kept fighting and grabbed a late consolation try thanks to Tim Bergin which Liam Finn converted.
The Wolfhounds were aiming to bounce back following last weekend’s European Championship 26-6 loss to Scotland but they were comfortably put to the sword by Wales and go into their November 5 clash with France on the back of successive defeats.
To their credit the Wolfhounds kept fighting and Bergin crossed for a late consolation try.
