Rivazza gamely makes all in winners of two
On an afternoon that saw Welsh trainer Tim Vaughan present, Rivazza (5/1) was clearly containing Money Trail when Pat O’Rourke’s charge sadly sustained a fatal injury on the run to the final fence.
“This horse looked real good as a four-year-old and he has really come to himself over the past couple of months. We will probably go for a hunters chase now, but he needs good ground,” said Dore of his wife Edel’s seven-year-old.
Rivazza’s rider Pa King went away with two winners for he also collected the closing seven-year-old and upwards maiden with Harry Kelly’s ex-track performer Keep Movin (7/2 — 9/4). Owned by Martin McGuire from Callan, Keep Movin effortlessly asserted before the final fence to beat Old Shyan. Fethard-based operator Kelly also won this same race 12 months ago with the King-ridden Amy Beth.
Declan Queally also partnered two winners. The Cappagh amateur initially combined with the absent Pat Cody to take the four-year-old maiden with Sir Lynx (4/1). The grey-coloured Sir Lynx, runner-up on his final start at Ballingarry last term, mastered Dushybeag from the final fence to score by a half-length. Queally completed his brace aboard Bach To Whitingbay (4/1), an initial success for Ballinacourty-based owner/trainer Richard Morrissey, in the second division of the five and six-year-old geldings’ maiden. Bach To Whitingbay made most of the running to dismiss the promising Redbridge Rebel by two lengths.
Yet another handler to sample a first victory was Padraig Cronin from Lombardstown as he was on the mark with Flick Of A Switch (9/2), whom he shares with his partner Michelle Duggan, in the five and six-year-old mares’ maiden. Flick Of A Switch was yet another to benefit from frontrunning tactics as she recorded a gutsy pillar-to-post success to get last season’s novice riders champion Ciaran Fennessy off the mark for the campaign.
Battlefront (4/7) became the first horse to win two points this season when effortlessly landing the ladies open with his handler Ted Walsh’s daughter Katie. Jamie Codd kept his supporters happy by collecting the first instalment of the five and six-year-old geldings’ maiden aboard John Nallen’s ex-hurdler Minella Special (5/2).
