Draw can swing it in Jayfkay’s favour
George is now clear favourite for outright success after two stunning performances in earlier rounds.
He lines out in Heat 6 which is perhaps the best contest in terms of quality of the Derby thus far. With Colorful Champ, Droopys Twirl and Melodys Royal in opposition Razldazl George will need to be at his very best.
Razldazl Jayfkay also faces a very tough test in Heat 3 where defending champion Tyrur McGuigan is amongst his rivals. Add to this pair, Maggies Whistle, Ballymac Mitsy and Droopys Comedian and it rivals the aforementioned Heat 6 as one of the contests of the Derby thus far.
The key to this contest is the draw. Jayfkay is housed on the inside of McGuigan which should make a huge difference.
Razldazl Bugatti is another Ruth trained inmate with real claims. He will line out in the final heat and looks a certain leader. Much will depend on whether he can build a sufficient lead as his reserves of stamina don’t quite match those of his rivals.
Meadow Bank Owl seems certain to start one of the shortest priced favourites of the round when he lines up in the red jacket in Heat 2. If he can hold his position early he will take some stopping.
PJ and Conor Fahy will be hoping Tyrur Quinn can safely negotiate his way through the opening heat. He returned to his best last week when posting 29.79. Dolores Ruth’s Makeshift will likely start favourite, however. Both Makeshift and Tyrur Quinn possess huge pace to the third turn and it would be somewhat of a surprise if they didn’t finish first and second in either order.
The Fahy team will also be hoping Tyrur Big Mike can come on for his latest outing when showing signs of a return to form. Last year’s runner up is well housed in four in Heat 7 where Champion Stakes winner Uncle Eoin and British raider Droopys Greg look the dangers.
