Mozzletoff‘s early dash to swing it
In a contest packed with quality, Mozzletoff and Droopys Twirl head the market, but the presence of Cool It Baby, Mutual Decision and Maggies Whistle should ensure a thrilling race.
Mozzletoff is the only unbeaten finalist and will be looking to claim a first Oaks success for the husband and wife team of Des and Marie Gilbert, who, in the past, provided three finalists without success.
Standing in their way is Droopys Twirl, who enters the final on the back of a stunning fastest of the year 28.22. She bids to emulate Dalcash Dvinsky, who won both the Puppy Oaks and Oaks twelve months ago.
Cool It Baby and Mutual Decision can’t be taken too lightly either. Both possess huge pace and it would be no surprise if either were to post 28.40. The big question is will 28.40 be good enough?
The truth is that Mozzletoff and Droopys Twirl are the two fastest bitches in the line up and should dominate. Much will depend on the early exchanges, but the superior early dash of Mozzletoff could swing it her way.
Graham Holland will be hoping Leeview Jet continues his love affair with Drumbo Park in the final of the stg£25,000 Bettor.com Northern Irish Derby. Having already set the national record for 525yds at the northern circuit last October, Leeview Jet added the 550yd track record to his CV last weekend when posting a wonderful 29.51.
If he repeats that sort of form this evening it would take something special to stop him. Trap one is a concern for his followers, but he looks likely to justify his odds-on billing.
Cian Abbey is perhaps the biggest threat. That said he had no answer to the favourite in the two previous rounds. In short expect Leeview Jet to make every inch of the running. Incidentally the action from Drumbo Park will be shown live on Sky Sports 4 from 7.30pm, with the Oaks final also shown live as part of the programme.
At Limerick the semi-finals of the Kerry AgriBusiness St Leger should provide some interesting racing, although the highlight is the opening heat where five of the top six in the outright betting lock horns.
What A Tornado, Paradise Casino and Judicial Academy all won their respective quarter-finals, while the first two named remain unbeaten in the competition. If one had to pick a likely winner, Paradise Casino is the logical choice after setting a new track record last week. The second semi final is also competitive but Allowdale Prince gets the nod.
FEAR GORM has outstanding claims in the Red Mills All Ireland Series Trial Stake, one of four finals at tonight’s gala-sponsored meeting at Curraheen Park, staged by the Cork Greyhound Owners’ & Breeders’ Association.
This progressive sort displayed brilliant early pace when notching a 10th career success in 29.15 in the heats.
Fear Gorm failed to add to his tally from an outside draw in the semis, missing the kick and meeting trouble in running when finishing third.
Unbeaten in four career starts from trap two, John Hickey’s runner has the draw in his favour tomorrow and can bounce back in style.
