Tyrur Enda to lift €15,000 Tralee prize
However, the final of the Paddy O’Sullivan Race of Champions at Tralee tomorrow night must be rated the leading attraction.
Boasting a €15,000 prize for just two runs, this has to be one of the best value competitions in the country and a massive crowd is anticipated for what is also the annual fundraiser in aid of the Kerry GAA Training Fund. There will be all sorts of side attractions for the kids as well as Best Dressed Lady and the Celebrity Race. A number of Kerry football and hurling stars present and they will be available for photos and autographs from 6.45pm.
The big race is wide open with fastest qualifier Pablo Supreme only rated a fourth favourite by Berkie Browne at 4-1.
He rates Deerfield Music and Tyrur Enda the joint favourites at 5-2 with Rattling Tank a close third favourite. A trap five draw for Pablo might be influencing Browne’s view but this fellow has looked happier on the outside on plenty of occasions and should not be ruled out on that account.
However if Tyrur Enda can recapture top form he would win — and probably handily. He had been off the track injured since dead-heating with Krug Ninety Five in last year’s Masters final at Kilcohan and he could come on plenty from the run. If he can hit the traps right then the race could be at his mercy.
Deerfield Music is due a big run while Rattling Tank is a young dog on a roll and getting stronger all the time. Piercestown Sand and Fleetwood Nick are worthy finalists but appear to have a bit to find.
Down in Youghal, the Champion Stakes has lost its sponsor and is in doubt. However, the Track Supporters have come up trumps again by agreeing to sponsor the traditional Free Friday Admission during the months of July and August.
My original fancy for the Sporting Press Irish Oaks was Droopys Twirl and John Linehan’s bitch can still go on to justify that rating. She has failed to win on her last two outings but I suspect there is a fast start and a very big run to come. Perhaps in tomorrow’s second semi where the likes of Mutual Decision and fast starting Tracys Wildberry are the major stumbling blocks.
The other semi promises to be a real cracker with Beaming Olive opposed by ante post favourite Mozzletoff, the brilliant Cool It Baby and big finishing Inshaarla. But if Olive can repeat that 2.02 of last week then she will take some beating.
Saturday’s supporting card at Shelbourne is a really special one with a superb entry for the ECC Timber 2009 Stake and a few opens with the likes of Tyrur Big Mike in action. It will be mighty interesting to see how Shaneboy Fantasy fares in the third heat of the ECC where he comes up against the bang in-form Mines A Pint and early paced Head Rock.
The Kerry Agribusiness Irish St Leger moves to the quarter-final stage at Limerick and my ante post fancy, Paradise Casino, is making more and more appeal as the rounds go by. He goes in the opening heat on Saturday and is nominated to lead home Shelbourne Geoff. Big Appetite ran well to win last week as did Tranquil Time but Killians Express could be the one in Heat 2 while Judicial Academy could be banker material in the third. What A Tornado has been a revelation in the stake and if he repeats his running in the first two rounds then he will go in again in the final heat.
