Killester coach not taking UCD threat lightly

KILLESTER are hot favourites to defeat UCD Marian in tomorrow’s Men’s SuperLeague decider.

Killester coach not taking UCD threat lightly

In front of a capacity attendance and live television cameras, the Clontarf side are expected to retain their title, but coach Mark Keenan has warned against complacency.

“We lost consecutive league games to DCU Saints and Belfast Star before we stopped the rot last week against Neptune, but only by the skin of our teeth,” Keenan said. “A similar performance will not be good enough against UCD.”

UCD Marian coach Fran Ryan is delighted with their underdog status. He explained: “Many people have written us off but we have no fear of Killester, despite their recent run of victories against us. On our day we can compete with the best in this league. We have prepared hard for what should be a memorable day for all concerned at our club.”

The battle between the respective Americans Jeramine Turner (Killester) and UCD’s James Crowder may prove decisive. Turner loves such big stage occasions and with Isaac Westbrooks outstanding at the guard position, UCD could be in for a torrid afternoon. UCD will look to Meany brothers Niall and Conor along with Crowder to inspire them to victory. But barring a miracle the championship should remain on the northside of Dublin.
