IRISH Sports Council chief executive John Treacy has warned that drastic cuts to their funding in the Budget will seriously affect Ireland’s medal chances at the London Olympics in 2012.

Treacy, an Olympic silver medallist in 1984, said everything will have to be looked at after the Budget and if their funding is cut it will be reflected in all areas of their programme.

“It will obviously have an impact on our high performance athletes,” he said. “It could affect training camps or international competition and, of course, we would be concerned about that.
