Neptune planning without Louisme

BORD GÁIS Neptune coach, Pat Price, is planning without their 6’7” power forward, Robinson Louisme, for their big NIVEA for MEN SuperLeague clash with UL Eagles at Neptune Stadium on Sunday (3pm).

Their big American, one of the most exciting imports in this season’s SuperLeague, is a casualty of last weekend’s double header when Neptune beat Moycullen at home and then suffered their first loss to Ulster Elks up north.

It was at Jordanstown that he went over on an ankle and he may not just miss Sunday’s game against Eagles but, coach Price fears, the injury could keep him out for a number of weeks.

“The loss of Robinson to injury is a major worry for the coming weeks,” he said. “Eagles is a big game for us and we will go into that encounter as underdogs.

“But we are prepared to play hard. We must limit Scott Kinevane’s influence and take away the three-point looks for Matt Hall and Neil Campbell if we are to be successful.”

The game with Neptune will be UL Eagles’ second outing of weekend after having faced DCU Saints in Limerick the previous evening.

Their meeting with DCU Saints will mark home debuts for Mark Bernsen (head coach), Carlton Cuff, Ciaran White and Sean McCarthy.

“It was great to start off with a win away to UCD,” Bernsen said “We were off last weekend which stalls our momentum a bit but we used the time wisely preparing for these two games.

“The (DCU) Saints ran Killester close and I know they will be at full throttle against us.”

UCC Demons suffered their first loss last weekend and they can expect a big challenge from Moycullen who are looking for their first win after losing to 11890 Killester and Neptune.

Coach Paul Kelleher is well aware of the fact that the home side will throw the proverbial kitchen sink at them.

“With Stephen Tummon starting great, Moycullen have found the second scorer along with Cian Nihill they were lacking last year and they makes them a much bigger threat,” he said.

11890 Killester will be favourites to retain their 100% record away to a Belfast Star side still awaiting completion of their move for American Clayton Maurice Longmire.

Ulster Elks got their season up and running at home to Neptune last weekend but face a UCD Marian side that is buoyant after their first win over UCC Demons since 2006.

The IrishSport.TV Women’s SuperLeague tips off this weekend with some exciting games in store. Team Montenotte Hotel Cork begin life without Niamh Dwyer, Valarie O’Driscoll, Casey Grace, Emily O’Callaghan and Donna Buckley but coach, Mark Scannell, has a wealth of new talent ready for promotion from the underage ranks.

“There have been a lot of changes in terms of personal and we are missing Aine McKenna and Denise Walsh this weekend so it is certainly going to be a new look side,” he said in advance of their seasonal debut against 11890 Killester. “Our younger players have had a lot of success at underage level and now it’s time to step up.”

11890 Killester have a number of injury problems with Elaine Stone, Louise Gray, Claudia Frank and Fiona Carrick all set to miss out.

It promises to be an exciting night in Inchicore on Saturday as Black Forge Oblate Dynamos make their return to SuperLeague action at home to Meteors.

Dynamos boast a real talent in the shape of Mary Houlgrane who was a star player with Bridgeport University.
