O’Shea breaks U15 60m record
O’Shea impressed in winning the U15 girls 60m, winning in a time of 7.60, bettering Claire Bergin’s 1999 record of 7.75. Sarah Lavin (Emerald AC) broke the U16 60m record, her time of 7.72 was well inside the previous record of 7.8.
Lavin was back in action in the 60m hurdles winning in 8.97 just one hundredth’s outside the previous record.
The boys U14 60m was a tightly contested affair, Garbhan McKenna (Glaslough AC), Dean Power (Tullamore Harriers), and Simon O’Shaughnessy (Galway City Harriers) were inseparable, with all three given the same time of 7.99. Neither the judges or the electronic timing could divide them, so three gold medals were awarded.
The girls U18 60m hurdles saw Catherine McManus (Celtic DCH AC) win impressively in 8.79, very close to Derval O’Rourke’s 1998 hand time of 8.6.
Jemma Bromell (Emerald AC) won the girls U13 600m in a new record 1:41.28, smashing Cliona Ryan’s 2003 time of 1:43.16.
The boys U14 High Jump saw another exciting record-breaking contest. Both Mark Rogers (St Peter’s AC) and Sam Healy (Belgooly) fought out a terrific contest with both bettering Jason Harvey’s 2004 record of 1.61m, with Rogers winning with a clearance of 1.68m, and Healy second with 1.62m.
The championships best performance was broken 11 times in the U14 Shot Putt by John Kelly of Finn Valley AC and Colin Kingston of Bandon AC. Kelly went on to win with a throw of 14.00.
