We put out negative teams, adopted a siege mentality and hoped for the best. The one match where we tried to be open resulted in an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at home to Manchester United.

This time around we’ve been far more impressive. Arsene Wenger may have criticised us for being too defensive, but the stats show the Gunners had only one more shot on target than we did, pointing more towards us counter-attacking effectively and defending resolutely. In fact, we were only a Craig Gordon hop, step and jump away from claiming three points.
