PAUL HESSION, after a sensational indoor season, opened his outdoor campaign with a national record when winning the 100m in 10.28 seconds at the EAA Permit Meeting in Kalamata, Greece on Saturday.

Then the Athenry athlete finished second in the 200m with 20.67 seconds — just outside his national record of 20.54 seconds set in 2000.

The old record for 100m was 10.35 seconds, held jointly by Gary Ryan and Paul Brizzel and his new mark now means that Hession holds all the sprint records from 60 metres to 200 metres.
