Ireland team’s hotel evacuated

THE hotel where the Irish World Cup Cricket team are based was evacuated yesterday following a suspected gas leak.

However, the Irish squad were not present in the Hilton, Trinidad, at the time as they had departed for early morning practice.

Four fire engines were at the scene but no official comment was immediately available from the island yesterday.

According to AFP, players from the Pakistan and South Africa squad were in the hotel, some having breakfast, when everyone inside was told to leave.

Pakistan paceman Mohammad Sami said: “I was on the sixth floor when a security man came to my room and asked me to vacate the hotel.”
