Extra 3,000 horses under EIA surveillance

A FURTHER 3,000 horses are to be incorporated into a surveillance programme operated by the Department of Agriculture in its bid to contain the spread of equine infectious anaemia (EIA).

The horses, part of an identified group, are principally in Co Meath and the owners are to be written to by the department.

A team of vets from the department is being assembled to sample the horses and, in each case, the costs associated with analysis will be met by the department.
