Mallow juveniles land top fly prize

THE Munster Juvenile Fly fishing championship was hosted by the Cahir & District Trout Anglers’ Club on the River Suir.

The 52 young competitors, represented Aherlow, Ballyhooly, Cahir, Castletownroche, Conna, Golden, Kilworth, Kanturk, Killavullen, Lismore, Mallow, Rathcormac, Thurles-Holycross and Upper Blackwater trout angling clubs.

The young competitors gathered at Cahir Castle at 9.15am, fishing from Quinlan’s Slip approximately 10 miles down to Carrigtha. The morning was overcast and cool, but the sun came out at 1pm and conditions got quite warm. The teams of four had to contend with bright conditions. The championship was fished from 11am to 4pm, with 62 brown trout caught on wet-fly patterns.
