Hickey stays on at OCI

OUTGOING president Pat Hickey is poised to lead the Olympic Council of Ireland through the Beijing Quadrennial and beyond as he is unopposed at next month’s AGM.

There will be no voting for the president, vice-presidents, hon general secretary or treasurer this time, although there will be changes.

First vice-president Louis Kilcoyne moves to a position with the European National Olympics Committee, of which Hickey is secretary, and he will be replaced by Willie O’Brien (Archery), who was Chef de Mission for Athens last year.

John Delaney, the newly-appointed FAI chief executive, will become second vice-president in place of Shay McDonald (Gymnastics), who is standing down. Hon general secretary Dermot Sherlock (Boxing) is returned unopposed, as is the treasurer, Peadar Casey (Rowing).

The nominations for the Executive Committee are: Susan Ahern (Volleyball), Mary Baneham (Basketball), Bobby Begley (Athletics), Avril Doyle (Equestrian), Marion Fenton (Swimming), Dermot Henihan (Rowing), Billy Kennedy (Cycling), Mike Kindle (Baseball), Joan McCloy (Hockey), Bill O’Hara (Sailing), Tom Rafter (Fencing).
