McGrath doesn’t faze me: Vaughan

MICHAEL Vaughan has insisted he has no fears about facing Glenn McGrath after proving his fitness for the second Ashes Test match at Edgbaston, which starts this morning.

McGrath admitted that he “enjoyed” bowling at Vaughan after the England captain had made only seven runs in two innings during the 239-run mauling in the opening Test.

And skipper Ricky Ponting reiterated that Australia would be deliberately targeting Vaughan and confronting him with McGrath whenever he came to the wicket.

But Vaughan remains unfazed. The England captain points to his outstanding form against McGrath and company in the last Ashes series as a reason to be optimistic.

Vaughan said: “I can’t control what the Australians say but I feel fine against McGrath. Yes, I thought he bowled well at Lord’s.

“He bowled some fantastic deliveries. You’ve got to say that he got a lot of our players out with good bowling, not the reverse.

“He was a real handful but I wouldn’t say I don’t fancy facing him. I thought he bowled well at Lord’s but I’ve had quite a lot of success against him in the past,” said Vaughan, who was a doubt for the test after being hit on the elbow in the nets during the week but he has recovered.

Ashley Giles looks almost certain to play in an unchanged side after all-rounder Paul Collingwood was released from the squad yesterday.
