MICHAELA DORFMEISTER will retire on top of the world after crowning her career yesterday with the one major title to have eluded her, at San Sicario Fraiteve.

The 32-year-old Austrian claimed the Olympic women’s downhill title by finishing 0.37 seconds ahead of Swiss Martina Schild with bronze going to Sweden’s Anja Paerson.

The former world champion and World Cup winner wept with joy in the winner’s box then confirmed her earlier statement that the current season would be her last.
