But the closeness of the exchanges honed by the passion that is part and parcel of derby games kept fans on their toes at The Mardyke Arena last night when Neptune hung on by their fingernails to win the first SuperLeague clash of the season with their arch rivals and near neighbours, Mardyke UCC Demons.

For sheer excitement, the final minutes of the game had it all, thrills, spills and missed opportunities. But lady luck smiled, if just briefly, on Neptune as they hung on to a slender lead fashioned out of a second-half fight back that might even have merited more.
