Anglers warned to be aware of their rights
Chairman John Buckley said that many angling delegates across the province had sent apologies as they were searching for the missing Midleton boy, Robert Holohan. Robert's father Mark is a well-known member of Midleton Trout Anglers club and a keen competitor on the lower River Blackwater competitive scene.
The chairman asked any angler who can spare a day to join the search and thanked many individual anglers who had been involved, and especially those who travelled from Kanturk, Mitchelstown and Macroom to help.
Mr Buckley thanked the clubs that contributed to the disabled anglers project on Lough Lein, saying it was great that all such anglers can now still enjoy trout angling through the new facilities on the country's premier brown trout fishery.
President Peter Collins warned anglers to be aware of their rights, saying men with 'deep pockets' were waiting to take over fisheries that local clubs had controlled for generations.
Phil Horan, treasurer, said he regretted more finance was not available to fund the juvenile and senior Munster trout fly teams that competed last year.
Barry McCarthy, youth officer, reported on various youth events over the past season, including Mallow Trout Anglers hosting the 2005 youths fly tying competition at Mallow Park Hotel on Sunday 29th January.
He also reminded delegates that notices of motion for the AGM must be submitted by next Sunday.
The following officers were elected to lead Munster trout anglers in 2005; president, Peter Collins; John Buckley, chairman, John Buckley; vice-chairman, Martin Cotter; treasurer, Phil Horan; secretary, Kieran Casey; asst. secretary, David O'Donovan; environmental officer, P.J. Jackman; competition coordinator, Denis Cronin; youth officer, Barry McCarthy; TAFI delegates, P.J. Jackman & Gerry Kenny.
The following notices of motion were debated and passed:
1. That MRTAC reaffirms its support of the Killarney clubs in their objective to secure 'security of tenure' as promised on their waters.
Delegates were warned that tenure of their fisheries was still very much a live issue and will have be closely watched.
2. That the MRTAC AGM be brought forward a month to the first Sunday in December.
3. That the annual club affiliation fee be increased to 100.
