Quins bag six against Waterford

CORK camogie star Emer Dillon returned to hockey action over the weekend and bagged two goals as Harlequins hit Waterford for six in the Munster Senior League clash at Newtown School grounds.

The Cork side, who also scored six the previous weekend, gained a 3-0 lead at half-time with goals from Jane Chapple, Aoife McCarthy and Marissa Ahern before Dillon and Carrie O’Callaghan completed the scoring.

Waterford, winners over Catholic Institute a week earlier, played much better than the scoreline suggests but the sharper Quins made every opportunity count. Fiona Braddish got one back for the home side in the second half.

Elaine Bromell, with two goals from a penalty corner and a stroke, helped Catholic Institute to a 3-2 triumph over University of Limerick. Geraldine O’Carroll had their other goal. Susan Moore and Eimear Cregan netted for UL.

There was a home victory at Garryduff for Cork Church of Ireland who defeated Bandon 3-2, having led at the interval 2-0.

Karen Hales and Fenagh Smith scored in that first half for C of I; Carol Welch got one back; Deirdre O’Leary made it 3-1 and Ruth Kingston completed the scoring for Bandon from a penalty stroke.
