Ireland win squash play-off

Ireland’s men beat Spain 3-1 in their final play-off tie at the European Team Squash Championships in Rennes to finish 5th overall.

Liam Kenny beat Borja Golan 9-7 9-3 1-9 9-4 and Derek Ryan won 9-1 3-9 9-3 9-1 against Oriol Salvia.

Steve Richardson came back from two down to beat Victor Montserrat 3-9 2-9 9-3 9-1 9-1.

With the match secure, John Rooney was the only Irish loser beaten 9-4 9-0 9-3 by Albert Codina.

Ireland’s women finished 7th ending their campaign with 2-1 victory over the Scots.

Madelaine Perry lost out to Pam Nimmo 9-6 9-4, but Aisling Blake beat Susan Dalrymple 9-7 9-6 6-9 9-6 and Nikki-Ann MacDowell beat Lauren Gray 9-5 6-9 9-6 7-9 9-4.
