Hoggard stars in England victory

Matthew Hoggard produced the best English bowling performance in a quarter of a century to propel Michael Vaughan’s men to a breathtaking win against South Africa at the Wanderers.

Hoggard stars in England victory

Fast bowler Hoggard claimed 12-205 in the Test, the most prolific match return since Ian Botham’s 13-wicket haul against India in Bombay in 1979-80, as England regained the lead in the series with a 77-victory.

Hoggard completed the success in a tense final hour when last man Dale Steyn nicked a typically well-pitched outswinger, to give him aTest-innings best seven for 61.

Hoggard shouldered the extra responsibility with aplomb after Marcus Trescothick’s ultra-aggressive 180 allowed Michael Vaughan to declare and set the home side an improbable 325-run target in 68 overs.
